Create target segments on DBs

Introduction

A group is associated with a database containing the data of its users. ContactLab allows filters to be applied to each database.

Filters are subsets of users grouped according to certain characteristics.
For example, certain users can be extracted from the database and inserted in a test filter which can be used to test the group before sending it to all the users in the database. Or, if you have a database with users fromdifferent countries, you can create several filters: “English users”, “German users”, “Spanish users”, etc… and then address the Italian, German, Spanish, etc… version of the group to the appropriate filter.

Objective

To configure and apply filters to a database.

Procedure

1. Go to “configure > user db”.
2. Click on the name of the database you wish to apply filters to. As an example, we shall select “Supplier database”. (Chapter 2.3 describes how to create a database)
3. Click on “manage filters”
4. Click on “create new filter”.
5. Give the new filter a name. Suppose we wish to create a filter for foreign suppliers: we will call it “Foreign suppliers”. Filters may be “deployed” or “test”. Only test campaigns can be sent to the latter. In our case, we shall select “deployed”.
6. Enter the required conditions, i.e.: the characteristics of the users entered in that filter. In our case, the condition is that they must be foreigners. Let us suppose that every user in our “Supplier database” has a “Country” field.
7. We will therefore select the “Country” field from the first drop-down menu and “different from” in the second drop-down menu. We will write the name of our country in the text field . We have therefore set the condition: “Country – different from – name of our country”. All the foreign database users will therefore be entered in the filter.
8. Click on “calculate”. Click on “view” to find the database users that satisfy the set condition.
9. Click on “save” to create the filter.

The filter has now been created. We can use it when deploying the campaign in “create > new campaign”. Chapter 6.2, point 5 explains how to send a campaign.
